The Invisible Story
I was born again in 1977. In 1980, I hosted a Friday night prayer meeting in my home led by my pastor. One night a young woman who seemed to be depressed came to the meeting. When the pastor finished his teaching, he sat next to the girl to pray for her. I was sitting just in front of the pastor, and I inclined my head to pray in tongues. As I was praying, the Lord told me, ”Put your hand on her.” So I did and something strange happened: it was a demon manifesting, though I did not know what it was at the time. The Pastor did not like it, and he went and sat somewhere else. His wife came over to pray for the woman. The demon threw the woman to the floor, and everyone ran away. The woman eventually calmed down.
The following Sunday when the pastor called for people to come up to the front for prayer, a woman came up. The pastor motioned for me to come. I had never been asked to minister, so I hesitated, but he motioned for me again to come up. He told me that the woman was no longer able to pray in tongues and to pray for her. I did not know what to do, but a scripture came to my mind, Matthew 18:19:
Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.
I told her the scripture. Then I told her to try and pray in tongues with me and that the Lord would solve the problem. Then the Lord told me, “Put your hand on her stomach.” I did and a demon started manifesting. I knew what it was because I had just seen a manifestation the previous Friday.
Thoughts came to my mind. “What, a demon? Who am I to cast a demon out? First time to come up to the altar to pray for somebody and it is a demon manifesting? I can’t do this!” I looked to the raised platform and the pastor was there talking to a man. The pastor’s wife was also talking to a woman, and the only church elder was also talking to someone. I waved to the pastor, but he did not acknowledge me. I kept waving. He seemed to look in my direction but my waving just didn’t register with him. Then I started trying to signal his wife. Nothing. I could not believe that they did not see me. This was a very small church! Finally, I stated signaling the elder. It was like he was looking right through me. I thought, “I think I am invisible.” Right away, the Lord told me, “I am with you, and I am enough!” Joyfully, I commanded the demon to come out, and it did. I was amazed.
Driving home, I was exulting in the Lord about how the demon came out! I remember I was on the bridge over the Brazos River (short for Brazos de Dios meaning Arms of God in Spanish) when He told me, “Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.” (Luke 10:20)
And this is how my deliverance ministry started.
